Jarmel Kizel Provides Architecture and Engineering Design Services for Lithos Restaurant in Livingston, NJ
LIVINGSTON, N.J. (March 2, 2012)—Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc., a full-service architecture and engineering firm based in Livingston, New Jersey, recently completed architecture and engineering services for Lithos Restaurant, a new10,000-square-foot Greek fare restaurant located on Eisenhower Parkway in Livingston, New Jersey.
“This facility has a tremendous history dating back to the 1800s, and we are pleased to have assisted the new owners in transforming the space into an authentic Greek restaurant,” said Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA and principal of Jarmel Kizel. “Our firm’s ability to provide a one-stop-shop of both architecture and engineering design services, as well as our extensive experience in restaurant design, has helped the owners quickly and seamlessly get the restaurant up-and-running.”
Jarmel Kizel provided both schematic and interior design services, as well as architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for this project. Some elements to this new design included a new seating plan, fireplace, dining niche, fish display and salad preparation areas, a new bar area, a wine cellar, as well as an exterior pergola, seating area and fireplace.
Dating back to 1805, the site of the new Lithos restaurant was the location of a stagecoach stop between Morristown and Paterson. When the railroad came in following the Civil War, the site became the location of a bed and breakfast inn. The current building dates to the early 20th Century and for 40 years had been the site of Merrigan’s Tavern.
Most recently occupying the building was Carmine’s Restaurant, which featured an authentic Italian fare menu. Jarmel Kizel also provided architecture and engineering design services for the design of Carmine’s for the previous owners. With its original design, Jarmel Kizel incorporated much of the site’s history into the design saving many elements of the existing building. These elements remain for Lithos’ occupancy.
Lithos, meaning stone in Greek, will feature a menu with traditional high-quality fresh fish, lamb, rib eye strips and off-menu Greek specials served every day. Fish will be imported daily from Greece and the Mediterranean region.
Jarmel Kizel’s experience in restaurant design includes locations for T.G.I. Friday’s®, On The Border®, and Bocconi Pasta Pronto, as well as full-service cafés for such leading corporations as Samsung, Pfizer, Bayer Labs and ImClone.
