Jarmel Kizel Provides Energy Solutions Designs for Liberty State Park
LIVINGSTON, N.J. (July 26, 2011)—Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc., a full-service architecture and engineering firm based in Livingston, New Jersey, is currently working on an energy solutions project on behalf of NJ’s Department of Property Management and Construction (DPMC) and Liberty State Park in Jersey City.
After careful review of the energy consumption at Liberty State Park, the DPMC began looking for an energy solution that was both cost effective and environmentally responsible. A solution for the approximately 1,200-acre open space park has been made to replace the existing lighting in over 150 light poles with new LED lighting. These light poles line the walkways along the New York harbor and are a source of light for the park’s visitors. In addition, approximately 50 light poles in the picnic areas will be upgraded with newer poles that are similar to the existing poles found along the harbor. Jarmel Kizel also will be adding lighting controls to the new poles to further increase energy savings.
“New Jersey is an extremely energy conscious state, and this is a great project to help reduce our state’s carbon footprint,” said Matthew B. Jarmel, AIA, MBA and principal of Jarmel Kizel. “Our energy solutions studio is currently providing architecture and engineering services that will enable the park to reduce its electrical usage, and provide a more aesthetically pleasing and safer environment for its patrons.”
Jarmel Kizel’s Energy Solutions team is providing architectural, as well as structural, civil and electrical engineering design services for this project. The field survey is complete and the project has moved into the design and construction drawings phase. The project is expected to be completed later this year.
Jarmel Kizel’s Energy Solutions studio strives to bring high-quality, technologically advanced energy solutions to assist clients in meeting their green building and sustainable energy goals, while minimizing energy costs and reducing carbon footprints.
Other energy solutions projects completed by Jarmel Kizel include solar photovoltaic developments for the NJ Institute of Technology (NJIT) for 50 Kilowatts (kW), Hatfield Ice World in Colmar, Pa., for 400 kW and 611 Industrial Way for 530 kW in Eatontown, NJ, among others. At NJIT, Jarmel Kizel also designed a solar thermal hot water system.
