Jarmel Kizel Architects and EngineersDesigns New Building for Fire Damaged Flex Facility in

Edison, N.J.

LIVINGSTON, N.J. (April 6, 2010)—Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc. has completed the re-design of a 50,000-square-foot flex building occupied by The Schundler Company located at 150 Whitman Ave in Edison, New Jersey. The building experienced a devastating fire in late 2009 that left the site and the building in a state of disrepair. The Schundler Company, which is also the building owner, called upon Jarmel Kizel to lead the re-design of the building, because of its successful track-record in fire damage and fire protection design, and its ability to fast-track these types of projects.

“Our firm has quickly come to the rescue of owners whose buildings have fallen to fire, and for Schundler we were able to provide designs to their construction manager, Pantheon Construction, to rapidly get the new building underway,” stated Richard Jarmel, PE, and principal of Jarmel Kizel.

For this assignment, Jarmel Kizel provided architectural design services, as well as fire protection, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural engineering services for the reconstruction of the office, loading dock area and blending warehouse portions of the building. Jarmel Kizel’s designs ensure the new facility meets the current code compliance and is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Schundler Company produces perlite and vermiculite products for traditional construction applications, as well as for the horticultural industry, for the swimming pool industry in vinyl liner pool construction and filtration, and for a variety of special industrial uses.
